Gardeners of Greater Youngstown Scholarship

General Information and Instructions
The Gardeners of Greater Youngstown has been promoting
the education of college students in the field of horticulture through scholarships, since 1991.
Scholarships will be $1000 max per student pursuing a college degree in Horticulture, Landscape Architecture/Design,
Environmental Science, Biology, Forestry or Entomology.
Only up to 2 students can be awarded in any one year if criteria is met. A winning applicant can only apply 2 times.
Applicant Qualifications:
· Applicant must be currently a graduating high school senior or currently enrolled in a
credited community college or university, continuing their education in a horticulture program
with either Horticulture, Floriculture,Landscape Architecture/Design, Environmental Science,
Biology, Forestry or Entomology as a major at a post-secondary two-or four-year institution.
· Applicants must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.0 GPA, based on the 4.0 system.
· Applicant must currently live in or have attended high school in Columbiana, Mahoning, Portage, Stark or
Trumbull County in Ohio or Mercer and Lawrence County in Pennsylvania.

1 letter of recommendation from 1 professor or 1 teacher, if in high school
and an employer if working, and transcripts described on second page of application.

Applicants meeting all requirements will be contacted by telephone to schedule a personal interview at a mutual agreed place.
All interviewed applicants will be notified by March 31, 2026 of their status with respect to the scholarship.
Successful candidates will attend the May meeting of Gardeners of Greater Youngstown to be introduced as the
scholarship recipient to the Gardeners of Greater Youngstown.
Scholarship funds will go into the student's account at the chosen university.
Successful applicants will give a presentation to the club at a future meeting of the Gardeners of Greater Youngstown.

Eva is studying agriculture and environmental sciences at OSU's ATI in Wooster, Ohio. Future plans include getting an associate degree at ATI and resuming her education at Ohio State. She hopes her education will enable her to become involved in sustainable agriculture and conservation including making an impact in the way food is grown and distributed
throughout communities.
MacKenzie lis pursuing Horticulture Studies at Ohio State University, hoping her education will enable a career having a positive impact on nature. MacKenzie would like to assist government in developing sustainable farming and gardening methods. She has participated in NBOT, nanobubble technology, studies through OSU and will be interning this summer with MS Consultants.

Joseph Morrison graduated from Cardinal Mooney and attended ATI. He has been employed as a self employed landscaper for the past two years, and also worked at Molnar’s Nursery where he picked vegetables and helped install an irrigation system. Joseph also started a garden club at Mooney.


Angela lives in Girard and will be entering her senior year at Youngstown State
University pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Science. She credits her close-knit family with providing an enduring love of nature, gardening and learning.
She volunteers with Youngstown CityScape, litter control pick-ups, planting flowers and tending beds with the Girl Scouts of Warren, and hopes to secure an internship with Mill Creek MetroParks. She has also worked at the Youngstown Country Club since 2021 and is a member of ourorganization.
